During his life, Dick Jensen was a primemover of nightclub shows and released four albums, including one on Command/Probe Records and one on Philadelphia International Records, plus a few more singles.

During the 80s he was featured in a few episodes of the popular American television series "Magnum P.I.". Often compared to Tom Jones, he is also remembered as the one who invented a sort of "proto-Moonwalk" long before Michael Jackson made it fashionable, just have a look at the video below taken from the Ed Sullivan Show:

I'm also trying to compile a Dick Jensen exhaustive discography, my work-in-progress is available here.

Last but not least, I'm also trying to build a collection of Dick Jensen pictures and memorabilia, my work-in-progress is available here.

All my posts dedicated to Dick Jensen on this blog are available here.

I will post more Dick Jensen stuff in the next weeks, if you have any other useful information about him and his releases or if you spot any dead links, just get in touch with me at stereocandies [at] hotmail [dot] com or leave a comment in the box below, thank you!

    1. Found your blog and enjoyed it very much. I was a big fan of DJ. Having been a drummer with my own band in the '60's and '70's, I came across Jensen's shows in NY and FL. I have had the great joy of seeing everyone from Elvis to Sinatra to Wayne Cochran, no one could match Jensen as a live, in-your-face, showman. I remember him at the Copa & in the Poconos where he held the record for standing ovations. This an entertainer without a hit record. You may be interested in tracking down his performances on Carson, Griffin, and David Frost archives. The Mike Douglas show performances are available on DVD but they are very expensive. I have always wondered where there could be a LIVE video/recording of Jensen's version of "Vehicle", which he usually used to open his show. I have all of his albums, including "The Writer". He also made a cassette of his live show from the Hula Hut in Hawaii that I had at one time. I also recorded cassettes from some of his live shows. Unfortunately, they haven't survived over the years. I have some personal photos of DJ with my family, autographed albums, and my favorite item - an original Playbill from the Copacabana in NY. Good luck with this endeavor. I'll keep checking in. He was the best!

    2. Hello and many thanks for sharing your memories and information about Dick Jensen! Wow, I'd love to see those videos, I will search for them. "Vehicle" is a top tune and I didn't know that Jensen used to perform it; surely there's too many things I don't know about him... I am lucky to own a copy of "The Writer" too, it was very difficult to find it; I will post it on this blog at a later date along with his other LPs.
